When in Rome, do as the Romans do. So what does one do if one is in Dubai? Why, embrace luxury, of course.
One statement everyone who has visited the city has heard (at least once) is: ‘Dubai has something for everyone’. And it’s true: from futuristic skyscrapers to historic souks, stunning yachts to traditional dhows, Michelin-starred restaurants to hole-in-the-wall delights, Dubai has it all. But over and above everything else, if there is one thing Dubai is known for, it’s luxury.
The Centre of Now
Sprawling malls, deluxe accommodations, outstanding eateries and unforgettable experiences are what make Dubai one of the top destinations to visit and to live in – and nowhere in the emirate is this splendor more in focus than in Downtown Dubai. One of the most happening places in the city, Downtown Dubai is aptly named the ‘Centre of Now’ and counts as the most visited destination in the world.
But this iconic hotspot is not just about shopping and entertainment; it also boasts some of the most exclusive and well-appointed residential spaces in the emirate. For the discerning city-dweller, there are myriad luxury apartments in Dubai – particularly Downtown – that one would definitely be proud to call home. Every single amenity is catered to: these elegant and grand living spaces boast everything from 24/7 concierges, superb gyms and spas, to luxurious rooftop pools and lavish terraces. And, of course, living in the Centre of Now means you have daily access to one of the most stunning skylines in the world.
A world of firsts
Everything in Downtown Dubai exudes luxury and extravagance: At the heart of the Centre of Now is the stunning Burj Khalifa – the world’s tallest tower – an architectural marvel whose contours are familiar to any modern traveller. But that’s not all – Downtown Dubai also boasts the world’s biggest shopping, entertainment and leisure destination – the striking, extravagant The Dubai Mall, and the world’s tallest performing fountain – the Dubai Fountain. Surrounding these are numerous world-renowned hotels – including the Armani Hotel, the Address Hotel, the Palace Hotel and the Manzil Downtown Dubai, among others. Winding past these are scintillating thoroughfares replete with plush retail stores as well as swank cafes, making Downtown Dubai one of the most visited and sought-after shopping and entertainment destinations.
Life of luxury
Indeed, one does not have to go far in the Centre of Now to seek luxurious experiences. Souk Al Bahar, the shopping, dining and entertainment destination, provides a stunning window into the world of Arabic heritage and culture. Overlooking the fantastic Dubai Fountain and the majestic Burj Khalifa, along the Souk’s exquisite promenade one can find dozens of luxury shops as well as elegant cafes, restaurants and lounges. The Dubai Mall, needless to say, represents shopping heaven. It has the A to Z of luxury brands – literally, from Armani to Zara – more than 1,200 of them, in fact. There’s also the delightful Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, and the Fashion Avenue, which features the latest collections by top designers, including legends such as Stella McCartney, Versace and Alexander McQueen.
For patrons of arts and culture, the Opera District is the go-to destination and the central Dubai Opera puts on a stunning list of programmes throughout the year. Connoisseurs of food will be spoilt for choice, from French and Mediterranean treats at the upscale bistro Vida, to Royal Thai cuisine at Thipara, Peruvian fare at Coya and Japanese delicacies at Mizu.
Indeed, living amidst such wonders, luxury is not an elegant extra in Downtown Dubai. It is a way of life.
